I want some good synonyms for the word "idiot." GOOD ONES.
galoot (n.): a strange or foolish fellow
I want something to say instead of "jackass" (especially while driving), but mom's "nincompoop" compromise that she used when we were young doesn't work for me.
How do you feel about "muttonhead?"

I like "muttonhead". It's offensive and it will confuse people. You could try SAMF. Think about it. Tee-hee. Or, if you really, really want to freak people out when driving, like if they flip you off or something, give a peaceful, beatific smile, then calmly make the sign of the cross in mid-air. I'll think about more words tonight.
I need help faster than I thought! A muttered "f---er" escaped my lips this morning as a cab tried to cut me off. But when I said it, I didn't use the dashes.
